Well, the LFS said to my mom when she was getting some Melafix to just use Pond Melafix and use half the dosage because they were out of regular Melafix. IS this a lie?

better be safe then sorry...return it...and wait for the melafix to get in

Since I have never used melafix before, what I would reccommend to you is check on the back of both bottles for the reccomened usage of melafix. Compare them and then you can probably tell which is stronger (most likely the pond one). The pond melafix is probably stronger since it is used to treat a greater amount of water than that of which someone would buy for an aquarium. Overall I think they would both do the samething unless stated on the bottle.

hope this helps.

pond melafix is a more concentraited solution than regular melafix.
yes half dose pond melafix when treating a fish tank.

its the exact same active ingredient, just a different concentration, I'm not sure if half is right, just follow the instructiond per gallon and scale it down a bit.

Hi Sheridanp,

I'm looking at a bottle of Pond MelaFix made by Aquarium Pharmaceuticals. It contains 5% Melaleuca. Regular MelaFix contains only 1%.

Either one can be used as long as it's diluted properly. Take care not to use too much because it's a strong produce and an overdose can burn the fish. I buy 100% pure melaleuca oil at the health food store and make my own version.

Since MelaFix is just a mild bacterial agent, it will sometimes work, but not always. If you don't see marked improvement in your fish's condition within a couple of days, do a good water change and switch to a more reliable medicine.
