the title says it all really!! Can you use pond melafix in tropical tanks?

I haven't checked the labels to see if there are any real differences. There might be some minor ingredient changes to help with diseases that lower temperature ponds can get but I doubt there would be any problems. You should really compare the ingredients.

I'm belive that pond melafix is a higher concentration than the std melafix, you would need to work out the dosage carefully before using.

Yes, if you could tell us the active ingredient and the percentage of said ingredient (should be right on the label) we could help you more...

I don't know it, I was just thinking of getting some for my big tank as the small bottle I usually get is used in basically one dose!!!!!

Thanks Inchworm. So it should be OK. I just need to make sure I check the percentage of ingredients and dilute as necessary!
I think it already adjusts in the dosage quantity anyway as the pond one says to use 5ml for every 50g, and aquarium melafix says 5ml for every 10g. Thats is why I wanted it as I would only have to use 15ml of pond Melafix per dose compared to 75ml of Aquarium melafix!!!

Why buy melafix? I make my own using pure tea tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) and R/O water, the only ingriedient that is missing from the bought stuff is emulsifier to blend the oil and water and a binder to stop them from seperating again.

To make home made melafix combine 5ml of pure tea tree oil (Melaleuca alternifolia) with 100ml of R/O or distilled water and then shake vigourously until the oil is combined with the water, then use as you would normal melafix.

Translated into American English, it means something like this: :D

Instead of using MelaFix, I mix my own which I call Melafake. To make it, mix 1/4 tsp. 100% pure tea tree oil with 8 TBS. dechlorinated water. Shake very well and use it as you would MelaFix. Shake well again before each use.

Pure tea tree oil is a very light, thin substance which will mix with water, if well shaken. When Melafake is added to water intended for use as part of a water change, the force of the water coming out of the tap will further agitate it and mix it with the water. It will then mix with the tank water the same way MelaFix does.
