Pond In Pennsylvania....

I'm planning on having a pond for goldfish in Pennsylvania. I know this can work, but how difficult is it in the winter? I don't want them to freeze but I also don't want to have to put an insane amount of money into it to keep the water warm enough. What would you suggest? This pond is a few years off yet but I want to be VERY ready and informed when I do it.

Dig the pond as deep as you can (4FT +), but as tokis phoenix said, how cold does it get?
