This is a great thread :clap: ^_^ , im going to be building 2 ponds connected by 2 streams in the garden of my new house hopefully within the next couple of months and have been wondering a couple of things;
a. I think i will have to use multiple peices of pond liner due to the streams, but i am concerned about the points at which the new liner overlaps the old liner leaking, anyway i can avoid this or anything i can do to seal the layers up?
b. Do all koi grow to about the same size(2-3ft?) or are there many size variations within the species?

You can buy sealer to join liners,bri will know he as a few ponds :

I think the size of your koi depends on the size of the pond they are in.

Bigger deeper pond larger koi :thumbs:

You must take pictures when you start your pond :)

you can buy pond Splicer kits or Adhesives theres hundreds of them on the market

for the stream just use the liner repair tape ,fold the liner back on itself uphill and stick the underside

on the feeder pond(highest one) tuck the stream liner under the pond liner and seal then in the lower pond have the stream liner over the top of the pond liner and seal

just make sure the water runs downhill where the joints are ie try and have the joints on the steps downwards

Hi, we have definitely gotten experience with a koi pond. We have used the liner, which if one can they should definitely think of a mud pond. That is our next pond, we are using the clay from our area Georgia and then either 13 fertilizer or chicken poop. We have a spillway, which I do not suggest doing it our way. We have a liner underneath and flat rocks with kind of a step look to it, on top of the liner. We have such problems with this sytem. We tough of tearing it out and building a small type of fall system. I also agree with what others have said, forget the books, that is where we received the spillway idea. We have an idea to use a large bucket and put plants in it and use that as an additional filtering system. The roots of the water plant acts as a filter. One pumps the water into this bucket, that has a spout on one end. The bucket is leaning downwards, so as the water gets up to the top it will run off and out of that spout. Well if one needs info on a mud pond just ask. I have just finished alot of research.

Do you know the Japanese put their chicken coops over one end of their koi pond so the chicken poop drops right into their mud ponds. I am definitely not going that way, don't want the chickens. Well take care. Lynda

Bri would that sealant fix a small knick in a pond liner to?

Thanks for the info everyone :) , i will get some pics when i start my new pond and post them on here(maybe even a step by step pond diary?)- i need to get some tree surgeons in the garden first as i have loads of ugly hedges taking half the garden and space where the ponds will be, will tree surgeons only remove the hedges themselves or the roots as well or is that a job i will have to do myself :dunno: ?

I think you may have to start digging :)

If the roots are big I know there is something that you can get that kills them :)

yes cat it will repair cuts and holes that how i learned about it lol ,drain the water to below the tear and clean with white spirit(make sure not to get any in the water)
rub dry then allow to dry a little longer for any residue to evaporate then follow da instructions i used bike innner tube to repair mine :whistle: or you can use a scrap bit of liner :cool:
