You know those polished stones you find most of the time in the garden/craft section of a store? Are they safe to use in aquariums? :dunno:

I've been searching on google but I can't find any answer. I found one aquarium website that sells them but in the description it just says to use in fountains.

Anyone on here use them?

I've seen shiny rocks, marbles and other types of similar stones for sale at my lfs but I dont want to risk putting these in my tank if they arnt safe :/

I've used the shiny, smooth black stones they sell at pier 1 and such for planters and candles and stuff, and my cousin uses more colorful 'dime' sized ones in his goldfish tank without a problem.

Alright...well the ones I'm using are the bigger black polished ones. I found an article on-line about a DIY chiclid cave using these polished stones so I think they would be safe. I guess time will tell  I was just worried about them affecting my ph. I know some rocks can do that.

they will be fine imho, as they have been sealed by the polishing process.

would you mind givig me a link to that article or if it's in a magazine, describe how to build that cave? :)

Yeah sure  I'm actually thinking of building one myself...it looks so cool and really simple to make.

I'll pm you the link

I have some polished ones all different natural colors and they are fine in my tank.
