i had a small aquarium which i purchased 3 yrs back, but never had time and knowledge to take care my fishes. recently i purchased a sightly larger aquarium with following speci:

size: 3 x 1.25 x 1.25 feet
temperature : 25-26 deg C
filtration: 2 gravel filters , 1 sponge filter
ph: 6.5 -7.0

i had 3 gold fishes and 3 sharks (sizes: not more than 3 inch ) in my older tank. which as i told, never taken care off. and because of which, they dint grow to size, which they are expected to do after 2 yrs. anyway, i transfered them to this new tank.

soon after i purchased this tank, i added 3 pairs of tiger barb (size : 0.5 inch ) , 1 pair tinfoil barb ( 3 inch ). there wasn't much of problem.

but recently, i added 3 red bellied silver pacu ( size 4 inch ) . i suppose, this was a plant eating and peace keeping fish.. but it turned out to be a mess. after a weak of adding them, they ate half of my vegetation , ate my siamese shark and are virtual terrorist in my tank. they ate all the fins of my gold fishes and remaining sharks too. i feed my fish twice a day with grains and dried worms. and for past few days, i found water to be cloudy. i changed 50 % water but found same situation in the morning.

my question is: should i increase quantity of fish food so that they dont attack other fishes?? or should i put them in my old tank , and if so which fishes should be grouped together in my old tank??and how to get rid of cloudiness in my tank

size of my old tank : 1.75 x .5 x .5 feet

I would say slightly increase the ammount of food you are giving them, but make sure they consume it all. If they don't, just scoop it out...
Just see how that goes for a day or two and then see how that goes. Otherwise seperate the aggresive ones from the others. Anyone else have suggestions?

but i hv seen, when i increase food quantity, cloudiness of water increases. for past few days, i m giving food they can eat in 5 mins. and looks like they are always hungry.

and as u told, to separate them, which fish should be grouped together??

Hang on, how can you have goldfish and sharks together? as well as 3 red bellied silver pacu?

That's a no no!

i dont no how, but i had these sharks and gold fishes for past 2 yrs... and i hv noticed these shark dont eat dried worms neither they attack gold fishes or for that matter any other fishes!! but its only the pacu which attacks all others, tinfoil attacks others ( expct pacu), and tiger barb attck other ( expct pacu and tinfoil ). i think u got it now...

will grouping like this will help me:

new tank:

3 pacu
2 tinfoil
6 tiger barb

and for old tank

3 gold
2 shark

Wel in one tank keep the gold fish and sharks, and the other tank put the tiger barbs and pacu...

But tiger barbs are aggressive aren't they? and the pacu's aswell?

yes they are, but i found tinfoil to be more active then rest of others. and they are aggressive too. they attack my golds and shoo away tiger barbs !!

so should i group them with pacu and barbs??

Oh my goodness, what have you done???!!!

Put the goldfish and sharks together in one tank, and the other breeds in the other for now. The sharks are tropical and the goldfish are cold, so you may want to get another tank for them. As for the other ones, put them together (i.e. tiger barbs and pacu) for now until you sort something out!

u mean to say :

in new tank ( large 1):

pacu, tinfoil , tiger barb

old tank:

shark and gold fish

How big are the pacu, tinfoil , tiger barbs? and how many of each?

How big are the sharks and goldfish, and how many left over?

number: fish : sizes in inches

3: pacu: 5
2: tinfoil: 3
6: tiger barb: 1

3: gold fish : 3
2: shark: 4 n 3 resp

and my tank sizes are:

old 1: 1.75 x .75 x .75

new : 3 x 1.25 x 1.25

Ok, for now do the following:

Tank 1 - 3x1.25x1.25 feet:
Pacu, Tinfoil and Tigerbarb

Tank 2 - 1.75x0.5x0.5:
Too small for the goldfish and shark but will have to do for now...

You should put the aggressive ones in the biggest tank i.e. they are the biggest, and there are more of them.

The goldfish and sharks are fine together like you said? When you get a chance, get another tank similar to the first big one and seperate the goldfish from the sharks... if you know what i mean?

thanx buddy... i'll shift them 2day.

but wat abut cloudiness of water which i hv in new tank. i think i m having enough filter power and change 50 % water every weak..
yesterday only i changed my water, but the cloudiness is still there!!
has it 2 do with over feeding , or since my tank is near window ( but no direct sunlight ) ??
