Hey

My gf bought a couple of fish but she can't remember their name. They are so nice I want to get some for my tank and was hoping you guys could tell me what they are called so I can look up how to care for them properly and maybe even breed them!

If you guys have any tips as well that would be great! Both fish are the same and we know they are male.

Thanks in advance!

Dave

looks like a killifish of some sort, BigC will know I believe; looks stunning!

Thanks BigC - Googled them but am having difficulty finding conclusive information about them.

Some seem to say that 2 males are worse than Bettas for attacking each other (yet mine are absolutely fine together and have been for a few weeks) and others say they are peaceful.

Also the fish store we got them from had about 6 males in 1 tank with females in the tank next to them. We have them with 6 Guppies and all seems well. The LFS said they were very peaceful and great community fish - and as I said they had a bunch in the same tank,

I really want to get some more but does anyone have any further information on them? As I said mine seem really happy but I feel I need to be cautious now.

I did read about their breeding and that seems like a full time job!!

Thanks again!

LOL.
They must have come in from a private breeder Dave.
Stick a female in there and see what happens. (NO don't really)
The males will fight.
Best keep things as they are if you dont intend to breed.
I'm in the process of writing up an article on this Notho. but as usual its getting the time to do these things.
If it were me
I would purchase a smaller tank around the 18x10x10 mark split it into two and purchase 4 females (2 for each male)
If you wish to proceed down this route and to know more on how to deck out this setup then ask further.
Regards
BigC

I'm so disappointed that the males will fight!

They are both in a 35L tank and I currently have a 200L tank cycling (fishless) but only just started, so it might be a few weeks. Do you think they will be OK until then (since they seem alright for now).

Once I have cycled the 200 I'll split them up and have 1 in each. I won't bother breeding them as it seems a lot to do (getting them out, drying them, keeping them for a few months etc!).

Is there anything else worth noting about them - as I mentioned I have my 200L tank and once cycled I'll be looking to stock it with various fish - any that won't get on with these?

Thanks for your help BigC!

One major drawback Dave, They prefer livefood
They are whats known as annual killifish and they will only last from 10-16mths.

C
