is thier any thing i should feed him besides alge wafers

Plecs are nocturnal fish - He'll be out and about at night.

For food, try fruit and or veg - we've had success with cucumber, courgette, melon and broccoli.
frozen prawn once in a while and bloodworm are also good meat supplements.

so i chunk of frozen blood worms should b good 4 meat & will the pleco eat all the brocli & is it okay if i keep feeding him alge waffers

DUDE FIRST OF ALL DO YOU HAVE OTHER FISH IN THE TANK
YOU DONT FEED IT IT EATS THE STUFF THAT COMES OUT OF THE FISHES BACK END

No, thats the most stupid thing I've heard all week. No fish eats excretement, unless by mistake, but they normally spit it out. Plecs eat algae and other vegetables and anything else they can latch on to.

wow....im shocked....speechless.....wow

Just keep at what you're doing,
They will eat most chopped veggies,shrimp/worm and a good staple diet are algae waffers

How new is the pleco?

Coprophagy (feeding on faeces) is thought to be normal behaviour in some species but this does NOT mean that they will be properly nourished by it. (Eating grass is normal behaviour in cats, but nobody believes you can feed your cat simply by tethering it to the lawn!).

Faeces will be low in nutrition as the nutritious elements have already been extracted by the first fish; that is precisely why the faeces are being ejected, because they are waste.

Different plecos have different dietary requirements: some need lignin (wood) in their diets, some need more meat, others more plant food. But they all need to be fed!

Solidshark, your posts do seem to indicate that you have quite a lot to learn about fishkeeping- please do not offer advice unless you are absolutely sure it is correct.

well iv had the pleco 4 about 6 months & i wasnt feeding him any thing jus 4 him because of all the alge i had in my tank but then i wasnt sure if he should b eating any thing eles & then when i got him alge wafers cuz i couldnt c anymore alge he ate them but again i wanted 2 kno if i should b feeding him more

Apart from algae wafers and poopoo, my pleco only eats potatoes. He doesn't touch any other vegetables. I boil a very small potato in water for about 5mins, so it's not too soft, and doesn't break into tiny messy pieces inside the tank. My pleco loves it :)

Oops, I forgot to say that cut the potato in half after boiling it a bit. Your pleco finds it easier to eat it that way :D

It realy depends on what type of plec you have, their diets vary greatly as there are thousands of types of plecs, i would personally not feed fish anything that contains sugar like fruit as the vast majority of tropical fish's digestive systems aern't built to handle sugars in any quantity, but thats just my feelings.
All plecs, even the algae eating types, need protein in their diets and this is very difficult to come by on veg based foods alone, especially as the plec grows bigger and the need for protein becomes greater, there are many high protein based foods you can buy but the main rule is don't feed them anything that contains fat(like red meat) and make sure the fish has the capability to eat it i.e not much point in expecting a 12inch long plec to pick up tiny half centimetre bloodworms.
Often the best and easiest high protein food you can feed your plec are prawns, just make sure they are de-shelled and drop them in the tank. It will take any plec a while to consume a whole prawn and any high protein foods are prone to messing up water quality so you should take the prawn out after a couple of hours or within the first day of putting it in and do a 10-20% water change with dechlorinator- you shouldn't need to feed an algae eating plec a prawn more than once a week at the most.
You shouldn't rely on plecs to live of algae already present in the tank as not all plecs eat the same type of algae, the easiest way to make sure your plec is getting the veg it needs is to buy regular algae wafers(contain all sorts of dead algae, don't worry your tank won't get algae if you drop one in the tank) or feed your plec blanced cucumber.
