Pleco Trouble

I brought a Pleco from the store yesterday and the guy informed me that they could get no bigger than about 7 inches. Well, turns out he didnt know what he was talking about because as i came home and did further research i found that they get as big as 20 inches. Just my luck! I still have about 4 1/2 year sof college to go until i get out and have my own apartment. Do you think i will be able to keep him in a 55 gal tank until them without him getting to big?

I am not really sure, but as fish go, plecos are relitively unactive. I believe a 55 gallon tank would be fine, even going by the 1 inch of fish per gallon is plenty of room. I think as long as the tank is also atleast 20" wide it should be ok?
