Pleco Not Eating

I got my pleco last Saturday and he hasn't touch the algae tablets,courgette or the cucumber.i put the food in about 10 mins after the light goes out. he is in there with my ebjd who doesn't bother him.

my water stats are good

ammonia 0

nitrite 0

nitrate 20-40


he is a Scobinancistrus L48 or L253


tonight i am going to try some mussels and I have ordered some bloodworm pellets.

Well I can see why that'd be a problem. I think most people think plecos are all herbivores/omnivores you might want to take it back to the LFS if you wanted one to eat algae.

Omnivorous .... but yes a preference more for the meatier diet but will/should eat veg etc aswell.

do you have a lot of algae in the tank, i don't mean algae in the water i mean on the gravel and on the glass. sometimes they won't eat because they have too much food around them. by the way i never heard of a pleco eating cucumber!

Most plecs will eat cucumber mate, although it has very little nutritional value it adds to the variety of food that should be given.

..... i pretty much new what you meant mate.... i just thought i would clarify to ensure they OP new that veg still should be offered but it wouldn't be there preference most of the time.
