Plec Identification

Hey peeps,

I'm attaching a couple of pics of our pleco, Peter. Could anyone identify what breed of plec he is, and how big he may grow to?

the mrkings look a bit blurry in the photo but looks like either a common or a gibbi. hope youve got a biiiiig tank!!

edit: from 2nd pic id say gibbiceps ( sailfin plec) . size wise youre looking at up to 2 foot

Hmm, thats what I feared. So much for pets at home lol. He was only a couple of cm's when we got him at the end of june.

all too common with these fish . let me guess it was marked up as something along the lines of spotted plec or similar? unfortunately also very hard to re-home due to the size and the fact that they are so incredibly messy.

I wouldn't like to disagree with you, Mark (but I'm going to anyway!) I'd say that was a common plec; the Gibbiceps tend to have more 'giraffe' like markings and don't have the paler stripes...

Not that it makes much difference; you're still looking at 2 foot plus, whichever it is...

im not convinced on it being a gibbiceps im leaning more towards a hypostomus
