He looks male to me! No pink on the belly, extended second dorsal ray. I think the length of the anal fin is an indicator as well someone will correct me if I'm wrong. ^_^

I got sold two males from lfs, one would bully the other so I did some more research on the differences and took one male back and selected a female. They certainly hang around together all the time i don't know if that counts!

I can see a shade of pink on the belly, very pale but thats inline with the fish full stop - its slightly pale compared to other GBR's I've seen (possibly moving stress.)

Whats your LFS like? If you pop a male in there in it turns out the one you've already got a male, would they be happy to swap?

well i have to one is maidenhead which is awsome, but i got this one from a small private one which im not keen on, i rarely see gbr there. infact only once when i got him/her

im not sure why the pictures came out pale, in reality he/shes in great colour

heres another few pics from a few weeks ago of the same fish

To me, that looks like some light pinkness below the gills. Could be I need to go to specsavers though.

Might be worth hanging fire for a couple more opinions mate, theres a few regulars on NW cichlids who haven't posted yet.

Hi all...

One thing I was told about sexing juvenile German Blue Rams if you can't obviously sex them by the usual methods, ie. rays on the dorsal fins and pink belly etc, look at their pelvic fins.

Females will have a very definite black markings on their pelvic fins, followed by some blue, then orange. The Males will have mostly blue and orange, and maybe just a tinge of black along the edge, if any at all.

There is also the ovispitor or "egg-tube" on the females, the little white tube thing in their vent area.

Perhaps this helps?
