Would 2 feamle Bettas be ok with my platy. Would they eat the platy? I'm worried about fry also. I don't want to be over populated. I know it's nasty but would they eat the fry and leave my platys?

I'm not getting any yet just researching everything first. I currently have 3 platy but love them and would like a few more.

i have 2 of them in my tank real small fry yes they will eat them up ...
but big fry ( a few months old ) no they wont eat them i put my fry into a second tank till they got big then put them bk in my big tank when they was about 3cm long ...

And how big is your tank ? because they need space two run / swim away from each other

I've always been told by people on here that femeles have to be kept in groups of 6+ to spread the aggression between each other... Female betta's can be aggressive to each other which is why it has to be a large group.

One on her own would be fine. Actually with platies you could get a male if you wanted as long as they don't have hi-fins/lyre-tails.

Are you sure she wouldn't attack my platies? I have become very attached to 3 of them. But I don't want fry. I never realised how many fry they could potentially have and now I am worried tbh. I was thinking one female Betta to keep the population down naturally.

Nah, she'd be fine with them. If mine doesn't attack the male guppies, which are a lot slower than platies because of their large tails, then she shouldn't attack your platies.

Cheers,

Thanks so much. I think I'll get one then. You've put my mind at rest. Thank you.

Glad to have helped. :good: Good luck! Bet she'll be a beauty! Some females can be just as pretty as males but with smaller fins, want proof take a look at some of the members who own females pictures(including me).... Sorry I was trying to be subtle about that but I love my girl. If you want to see a picture of her the best topic for that is "Ebony has a new name!"

Cheers,

Thanks I will. There are some on ebay but I can't decide on which colour to go for

Yours is gorgeous. I've emailed someone recommended on here. Does the fact they are imported or home bred make a difference to personality? Imported won't be more agressive will they?

Nah, it doesn't really change owt. Was the person recommended called Roxy/funky_fish_clothing(something like that)?

I've got a 260 litre with bettas and hi-fin platys. There are loads of platy fry in the tank ranging from a few days to a few weeks old. The tank is densely planted at both ends. At the moment I have 7 female bettas and 1 male betta. The bettas swim around with the platys and none of them take any notice of each other :0)

Most people advise that female bettas should be kept in a group of at least 5 to avoid aggression between bettas. One female on her own would be just fine though. I hope you find a lovely new addition to your tank soon :)
