Hi

I have 6 little black fish (2 of them are mockled) I just wondered if anyone can identify them, i forgot what the Fish Centre said they were.

To me they look a bit like a Mollie or Platy.... But they are alot smaller, i have made them look bigger for the picture, but its still not great quality....

Thanx Claire x

Mmmmmmmmm these must be babies then, as i have a silver/platinum Mollie and he is about 4 times bigger....Thats why i didnt think they were Mollies, but they do look very similar...

Thanx Claire x

probably mollies,juvies too,
got any side on pics?

DD

Ive just spent nearly 10 minutes trying to take a picture of them on a side view.... with no luck Lol, they are fast swimmers...I will try again later, i dont want to stress them out....

Its funny though everytime i go to the tank with my camera, my blue Gourami comes straight forward, i think he must want his pic taking lol

They are fast swimmers indeed and look like Molly to me too

they do indeed look like 4 black mollies and 1 dalmation molly
to me too

Ok ive just been staring at them again Lol...and there tail is curved like my Platy, they havnt got the same shaped tail as my Mollie...and there bodies do seem alot more like my Platy...so i dont know :/ These fish are very similar, especially as they are only babies, and maybe better to tell what they are once they have grown a bit lol...

Thanx guys

They're young mollies (99% sure). A side pic, even a blurred one, might be all that's needed to be certain. You may want to ask the liveabearers section as well. Oh and the tail and body variation doesn't necessarily mean you're looking at different species as both mollies and platies come in many different varieties and, mollies especialy, vary greatly as far as body shape is concerned. Your best bet would probably be to look at google and compare some platy and molly images to your fish.

I feel a little silly responding when the matter has been settled, but I wanted to throw in my 2 cents.

As someone who has bred both black and dalmation mollies, and had the fry grow through all the juvenile stages to have fry of their own...those are 100% definitely mollies.

Just as a point, it's probably not worth buying fish if you don't now what they are before hand, as LFS employees (as has been pointed out on every fish forum in the world) don't always give the best advice.

You got lucky this time, but it's always worth researching before buying :)

Hi thanx alot...im sure he did tell me what they were, but i forgot, plus i already have a Mollie he is Silver, and probably 3 times bigger than these little ones, that is why i wasnt 100% sure what they were...

Thanx
