I travel 30 miles to Maindenhead Aquatics for my fish, as I like to know Im getting good advice and healthy fish, rather then the local pet store.
I told them I had a Betta and they told me these fish would be fine with the Betta as they were community fish.
I trusted them.

Anyway, when I floated the bag, my Betta seemed to be aggressive with them - thought I was in for trouble!
Upon releasing them, they seem to live together fine, and keep out of each others way.

However, Ive noticed my Betta doesnt seem to be as 'happy' as he used to be. He still comes up to greet me when I go to the tank etc, but he spends more time down the bottom as well now.
Also Ive notice his fins are in worse condition them normal. They used to be almost perfect - now, every day they seem a little worse, like they have been nipped etc.

Throughout the day the above fish are nowhere near my Betta, and Ive never noticed any trouble. Maybe it happens overnight when the lights etc are off??

I feel like Ive made a mistabke with the above fish.

What are they, and are they actually compatible, or have I been fed a load of bull by the fish store?!

They're Bleeding Heart Tetra, a fairly fin nippy species, especially when kept in a small number

I agree, probably young bleeding hearts without the "heart" showing up yet.

I also agree that they are among the most nippy and even downright mean fish but react strongly to shoaling numbers. Six is a minimum and the more the better if you happen to have stocking capacity.

Can I return them back to Maidenhead Aquatics?

You were given the wrong info so you should have no trouble exchanging them

Yes they're generally quite peaceful, but I'd air on the side of caution and return them or place them in another tank.

If I take them back, will I get anything for them or will I just need to donate them?
Don't think I have my receipt any more either! :(

Deffo won't trust them any more! The fish are in good condition, so I'll continue to go there, but will just need to do my research better before I go!
