Hi, First post.....330 lt tank started 14 days ago.....plenty of plants all doing well and growing......water tests all spot on.....10 platyes introduced 10 days ago after treating water with quick start and bacteria treatment.....temp 27C....two big external filters fitted......Two days ago crystal clear water went green cloudy (algae) and sides of tank.......(two much sunlight)....treated 2 hours ago with the correct amount of INTERPET green away.......water went crystal clear after 60 mins.......2 dead platys and the rest in distress.
Says safe for all fish on the box.....HELP

Interpet Green Away No.4 100ml clears green water in aquariums

Excessive light or nutrients stimulate an unsightly and potentially dangerous algae bloom in aquariums, which can effect oxygen and pH levels, making the water quality alkaline and thus suitable for fish.

just found this i think you better aerate the tank quickly

or is it just me ph swings with fish in the tank

The problem is....the fish seemed fine untill 90mins after treating the 300lt tank with 60ml of Green away No 4. The water cleared and the fish became distressed...1 fish defo dead and 3 missing...3 gasping at the corners and one seems fine....???

This your first tank?

I've always been inclined to believe that quickstart and bacteria stuff doesn't work. Is the tank in direct sunlight at any point in the day?

How long your lights on for?

How often are you doing water changes?

Yes the tank has been in direct sunlight for part of the day which I belive has caused the algae. We have now sorted that problem...the lights have also been on to long but again sorted....The fish went sick (from being very normal/active) within 2 hours of putting the Green Away in...(must be the problem) 1 fish dead...now only 1 missing and the good news is that after gasping on the surface nose up for 2 hours 6 fish now seem fully recovered.....very strange....water now crystal clear again...filters all clean....plants doing well.

During sunny days the tank will be covered when exposed...the lights will be restricted to about 8/10 hours.....fingers crossed
