Hi i really hope someone can help me. I have a shark type fish for a long time now and never had any problems but today he is suddenly upright in the tank. yesterday he was fine but for hours now he has just been upright. he's still alive but hasnt moved much at all.

please can someone help? does anyone know if this is a disease or something? i dont want to lose him as he's one of the first tropical fish i ever got!
thanks.

edit. i was mistaken im not sure exactly what type of fish he is. the petshop couldnt tell me exactly. all i can tell you is that he looks like a little shark. but i think he is some kind of cat fish.

sorry google mislead me when in tried to find out exactly what he is and im quite flusteresd as im scared he might die before i find out whats wrong. sorry!
just so so worried

i had a clown knifefish who was doing that today
but did 50% water change and he should be fine
and what size is the tank and please can you post your stats
and this fish grows about the same size as a car or bigger so you should have a big tank

Size of tank in litre/gallons
Other fish and how many

i did a search on google and he looked kinda liek taht.
ok im not sure what exactly he is then. he looks liek a shark. he's not very big, maybe 5 or 6 inches long

ok em, my tank isa juwel record 60. holds about 63 litres i think.
last partial water change was about two weeks ago.
no medication put in the tank recently.

i have some neon tetras, a golden algae eater, a corydoras, some danios and two red eye tetras.

he looks kinda like this? what exact species is that.

Any water stats? Without them, Its hard to say, but an immediate 50% water change is needed if its been two weeks since the last, temp match the water going back in so as not to upset him more.

Does he look boated?

im sorry i dont know the water stats.
he doesnt look particularly bloated. its a bid hard to tell as a plant is in teh way.

he hasnt moved all day but i can see he is still breathing. i havent done anything different with the tank at all, didnt change the food or anything. it was just so sudden, i know these things happen but he just seemed fine yesterday and now today he doesnt.

ill do a water change anyaway and see if that helps

Jesus!

A Pangasius in a tank that small

Stupid Pet Shop :grr:

You need to take the chap out asap.

The smallest Pangasius I am aware of grows to about 15" long.

Ok so i did a water change and he's now swimming about as normal and seems much better. phew...
thanks for all the help :) i was just so worried cuz he's absolutely beautiful and so quite, id hate anything to happen him.

i cant really take him out of the tank though as i dont have anywhere to move him too unless i get a bigger tank. :/

the people in my local petshop are idiots, when i got him i was only just starting out with tropical fish and didnt know very much and they told me his kind were good for a community tank so thats why i got him. he was an awful lot smaller when i got him of course but he's a big chap now. though he hasnt grown much in the last few months.

also i just remembered that the golden algae eater has been pestering him a bit even though he's smaller and i wonder if that has anything to do with him seeming unwell? like the algae eater just will not leave him alone. he's a little git.

heres a pic of my sharky.
