How much do you guys and gals know about fin rot? I am pretty positive that Jack has it seeing as his fins are becoming 'shredded' and are getting smaller. The bottom fins are also clumping. I have been giving him BettaFix for three days and they are just getting worse. I dont know if I am giving him too much or if there is something else wrong with him. He lives alone. I cleaned his tank the day I started the medication. I dont know what else to do. I would post a picture but the camera I have is not very good and takes somewhat unclear pictures. Can someone help me asap? I dont want Jacks fins to be permanently destroyed.

 what are his ornaments like? my Ken has this lovely bridge thing that he manages to clamber through the holes. Hence his fins are very tatty, but he loves it so I am leaving it in there. My other bettas have not got such ornaments and so they are not shredded. Is he happy? Could he be catching his fins? :good:

I have a very soft cloth plant, a plastic plant that you can see in the background of the pic I have of him, and a stone archway that he swims through. Those I have had for him for the past few weeks and he was doing well with them. I added two new plastic plants that are of less quality so they are a little rough. never see him swim close enough to them for his fins to get ripped.

He is eating well, but since I started his meds he has seemed a bit gloomy. Do you think that might be what is causing this bout of 'depression'? He still swims like he used to, but i'll catch him at the surface or the bottom just sitting there for minutes. He never used to do that. He also has 'flaring spells', where he will flare for long periods of time at anything and everything. I am not so concerned about that, but added it in case there is something wrong with him.

Thank you and I will keep you posted on Jack.

He could be nipping at his own fins. Some bettas do that and its not because they're stressed they just do it. Some do it because they're stressed but thats not whats wrong with your little guy. I dont know, I guess just keep up the medication and see if it helps. Though if he is nipping his fins the medicine could be making him stressed if he doesnt need it making him nip more and that could be why it seems to be getting worse but I dont know. Maybe someone else can help you out more.
