Hi everybody,

I currently have a spare 80l or 22gal tank which i want to convert to a cichlid tank.

Could you please help me as to what fish will suitable?

Thank You :good:

Only the dwarf species are open to you for that size tank and I dont think any are African, they are all Old World (Central and South American).

Cockatoo
Bolivian Rams
German Blue Rams (although these need 28-30c and pristine water)
Kribensis

are the ones I can think of. More experts on here will know of others.

I think zoddy means 'New world' as opposed to old world which includes fish like oscars and such.

I agree with the list above.
Only thing I'd say is that cockatoo is actually a type of apistogramma and not a type of fish in it's own right.
Any of the apistogramma species would be suitable in that sized tank if you can give them the correct conditions.

Here is the link to a site with lots of information about various species of Dwarf Cichlids.

You could also keep a species shell dweller cichlid tank. There are around 24 species of the lamprologine cichlids, they use empty shells for homes and are from Lake Tanganyika.

There are several other groups of shell dwellers all African cichlids which you were looking for?

Just google shell dwelling cichlids for lots of info about how to keep them. A fascinating species of fish, most of which are small and can be housed in a smaller tank.
