Hi all, hope you can help!

We upgraded our tank and put the fish in a foot high 30l tubtrug in the hall which has laminate flooring. One of the platies lept out not once, but two times and upon discovering him I scooped him back into the trug, both times I thought he was a goner but he swam around ok.

This morning we couldn't find him and he was hiding in a cave and it looked like he was being bullied/nipped at by the other guppies and platies. He seemed to be holding his own ok. When he emerged because we were poking around, he was swimming absolutely normally but has a whitish patch on the top of his head - could this be where he is missing scales or his slime coat has disappeared as a result of the drop or me handling him? It doesn't look like fungus to me.

I have separated him off but my QT tank is being used for fry so he is in a tiny plastic floating box and if he's not contagious, I'd much rather he could swim free. He is eating fine and apart from wanting to be left alone

My questions are:
* Are his injuries as I suspect, to do with his jumping out/my handling him?
* Will he recover?
* Should he be ok in the main tank?

Tank is 200l housing platies, guppies, danios and tetras. All water stats good, PH is high around 7.8.

I have got a pic of him from the top which shows the light patch but can't seem to embed it: http://www.box.com/s/4bb81hnzo1myr4oils6e

It looks like you've got a little adventurer on your hands there, but I think that spot is just a scrape from his mishaps.

Since you already have him separated I would just keep him separated for a couple of days to observe if the spot is getting bigger, then I would suspect an infection and think about treating him with meds. As long as the container is heated and you are doing plenty of water changes he will be fine in there!

Thank you :) Yes I thought as much but it is definitely good to hear you agree.

We've very recently got through our fish in cycle and now it's not as hands-on I guess I am looking for the next thing to worry about!

Bad timing but we are going away for a few days tomorrow and i'd be much happier leaving him in the main tank than in what is actually the lid for the set of API tests (genius!). I guess if we come back and he's not there anymore at least he went knowing what's on the other side of the tank!
