gutted i lost 3 guppies and a tettra in 2 days and 1 frog

just checked my states
ammonia 0.25
nitrate 5.0
nitrite 0.25

what i am doing wrong my tank is 180 ltr an i do a 40 ltr water change ever sunday

Do you dechlorinate your water?

Have you cycled your tank?

You have readings of both ammonia and nitrite. This is what's killing them off. Even 0.25ppm is too much. It should be 0.

Do 50% w/c asap and keep this up every day. Make sure you monitor your water and if ammonia/nitrite are over 0 do more water changes.

+1

You should be doing large water changes every day until your ammonia and nitrite readings are 0. It looks like your filter is nearly cycled, though, because your nitrate readings are doing well. What's the history of your tank? When did you set it up, and when did you add fish?

the tank has been running with fish in now for approx 6 months

Have you done anything differently in the past week? Have you sprayed anything in the air that's unusual? Did you add new fish or decorations or plants?

do you run your filter pads under the tap to clean them? that'll kill your bacteria. How often do you replace the pads?

no clean in the waste tank water ive done nothing diffrent at all

my filter is a external one made by supafish 400ltr per hour

400lph isn't really enough for a 180L tank. Ideally you want a turnover of at least 5x the tank volume. That's probably not the cause though, if it was working okay before. I'm assuming you've only just started having these readings and you've had double zeroes up until this?

ive allways had problems with ammonia at 0.25 but never the other one

What are you using to test? 0.25ppm ammonia is highly toxic to fish.

At this point probably. :good: You need to buy a supplemental filter to augment your existing one. Until then, do a water change as often and as large as you can. :good:

Can you tell us the full stock you have now? (What type of fish/frog, how many per species and their approxiamate current size)

so could it be my filter not big enough

yep, you got it! i suggest nice big w/c's every day and to go out and buy yourself a supplemental internal filter with at least 400l/h on it...
