i need urgent help!!!! i just hate diseases. a to diseases.due to an unknown sickness a few days ago almost all of my angelfish died and all that is left now is 2 out of 8 tetras, an angelfish pair, and a solitary female angelfish. the angelfish pair is looking a bit sickly and the solitary angelfish looks really sick and kinda wierd and paralysed especially around its gills.i have put in medicine for bacteria and parasitic infections. am also gonna strip the tank down today and bleach everything exept the filter media of course.to kill all germs. then i,m gonna set everyhting up and put them back so that my tank is crystal clear.
hope am doing right any help is greatly appreciated

Oh my gosh, those are some seriously sick fish you have there!

Looks like bad fin rot, body rot, excessive slime, mouth rot/fungus...

Can I firstly ask what your water stats are please? Hoping you have a liquid test kit to test for the ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. This is really important.

Also, can you give us some background info on the tank. How was it set up - how long ago - what is your maintenance routine (how often do you do water changes) etc.

What medication have you used to treat these fish and when did you begin dosing?

I would not stress the fish out any further by removing them and bleaching the tank. Bleaching the tank will not cure their disease at this stage. What is needed is a test of the water conditions first. Then no doubt a 50% water change will be next on the list. If you have begun medicating then you need to finish the course. If no improvement is seen in the fish then you can try another type of medication (after doing another water change).

Regards - Athena

which means i need medicine for fungus, bacterial infection, parasite and which one? and for how long and how do i treat them?
i do 25 percent water changes daily but i think the problem is that i have a ug filter and i have,nt cleaned the gravel for about 2 months!!

As Athena said, do you know if you have had problems with ammonia, nitrite, etc? If you have lost both tetras and angelfish (two completely unrelated types of fish) then that suggests a water quality problem rather than a disease. Can you get your friend to test your water? I wouldn't use any medication until you know what is wrong, as some medications can themselves cause problems for your fish.

Definitely don't strip down and bleach your tank, it won't achieve anything. If you're worried about the gravel being dirty, you can give it a bit of a vacuum with a siphon (although remember that water changes will dilute medication in the water).
