i came on yesterday asking which fish was eating my tetras and i was told told that my tank is over stocked.
i have a 13 gallon tank with 2 hoplos, 2 leopard gourami, 1 molly, 1 discus and 1 elephant nose in total i have 7 fish in this tank they are all fairly small, all of my tetras have gone now.
my water readings are all coming up at 0 other than nitrate which is reading at 10 i have been told that this is fairly normal is it?
i also have a 40 gallon tank which has 13 african malawian cichlids in it and 2 catfish all of my water readings are fine for this tank too i have not had any problems with this tank.
if my 13 gallon is overstocked would any of my fish from this tank be ok to go in my cichlid tank or would this just be a really bad idea?
please help am i overstocked?
i just want to improve the conditions for my fish please help

In 13 gallon (UK) you could have a total fish length of 26 inches at maximum stocking density. The hoplos get to 8 each, as does the discus so with just those 3 your close to the max. I wouldnt really put any of your fish with Malawis if they are mbuna, as they can get pretty rough, also the water should be alkaline and hard. Whereas the hoplo, discus and gourami prefer soft.

Discus IMO need a 4foot plus tank, so they have sufficient space. Elephant noses likewise. Both discus and Elephants need specialist care, so it may best to move them to you LFS, as the tank they are in is unsuitable, and your malawis will knock the stuffing out of both species. The molly should be fine where it is, but I belive the hoplos are also too large. I don't know if it would be possible to move them in with the malawis, but I would guess that it would not. I am unformiliar with the goramis you hae, so cannot comment on their compatibility.

A larger tank is another option, arround 75 galls should do :good:
