a swordtail, 2 balloon bellys, and now a pea puffer. just dying. why?? the swordtail and one balloon belly, i didnt get to see die, but the other molly and pea, i saw trying to live but barely moving. why?? the peas still alive now, but i dunno for how long. its like, he cant move on his own, only the current makes him move unless he gets stuck at the bottom...anyone know whats wrong??theres nothign on em, no signs of anything. just death...and i dunno why!

like just now, i tried to catch him cuz i thought he was dead, aand he tried toswim away, but then he started floated down, like a dead float, and he just keeps doing that. trying to swim away, then floating...

i will have one, but real quick...could it be a knife fish? please say no...and mean it.

Is your tank quite newly set up? When did you add the fish? When did you last do a water change? Please give us some more info and we'll try to help.

ive had it for a while. about 2 months. ive had one swordtail and one black skirt in there around since i got the tank. i let it cycle for a few days, then put those in and theyre still alive. since i put another swordtail, 2 balloons, a knife, peacock eel, and 3 pea puffers. the one swordtail, balloons, and now one of the puffers (ones gone missing).

and i top the water off. i dont do changes...i dont have one of those vacuum things

and ill be back, im gonna go get a kit if they have em at walmart... cuz thats all i have

Topping the water off isn't good. When water evaporates, the impurities stay behind so when you only top off, those impurities continue to build and could reach harmful levels. Doing water changes, removes them to allow for what will come back in with the fresh water.

I am new to keeping fish but I do know YOU! are killing your fish and putting the ones still alive through a living misery I do hope it is from ignorance although that is really no excuse. unfortunately I have read a lot of posts like this in my short time here it makes me sad :( .

I suggest you take the time to read and digest the following articles:

what the heck are you talking about dude?? im not killing my fish. not on purpose anyway. jeez. im trying to HELP them if you havent noticed...

ANYWAYS, i got the readings. nitrate is about 40, nitrate is about 3.0 (which is high i think), hardness is 300...which i know is too hard, alkakinity is between 0 and 40. the green square is kinda green with a lil yellow in it. yellow is 0 and green is 40 so i dunno, and pH is 7.8

thanks for making me get that...now how do i fix it?? water changes?? and about how much??

And don't forget to dechlorinate the water before putting it into your tank....all so make sure it's about the same temp as your tank otherwise the shock of the cold water could also kill them!!
