I just came home and my neice came over. Her favorite thing to do is feed my fish. "Her" fish Joy is a gouramie, not sure what sex it is, but it is an orange fish whose kind of flourescent blue on top in the light. Well, I don't know pf it is possible for a fish to change color, but it's face and half of its stomach is purple now! It's stomach also seems to be fat! I have a picture, but it is not the greatest...you can't really see the purple! I am trying to get another picture but it wont hold still. It is still eating alot, and is swimming fine, nothing else seems wrong but that. Does anybody have a clue as to what it might be? The fish I think is sick is the orange one in the picture (the other is a pregnant guppy)

I don't know much about gourami's but she could be constipated, try feeding her some cooked de-shelled peas or algae wafer and that should sort it out

Ok I definetly could be wrong but from that image I dont think it's a gourami, A side profile image clear or moderate blur would be great

Katchan

Edit in
forgot to say from viewable caudual fin and markings I'd say a swordtail, possible male by the dorsal fin, but as I said it could just be the photo :dunno:

That's deffinately not a gourami. I'm thinking you have a pregnant livebearer of some sort. As was mentioned, a side shot would help - even a blurry one could make it possible to sex and also tell what species the fish is. Fast it for today, don't feed it then until late tomorrow and I would feed it a shelled green pea (microwave it for 10 seconds first to soften it, then take off the outer shell) in case the problem is constipation which can occur if fish are over-fed (something kids tend to be inclined to do). Don't feed anything else. All your fish can eat peas. It won't hurt them to be fasted for a short while either so don't worry about feeding anything else today or most of tomorrow.

:/ that most certainly looks like a female swordtail - and from that angle looking rather fine :dunno:

:S Sorry everyone that is the wrong picture...They are my pregnant molly and guppy.....I get doppy when I am stressed! Anyway here is the right pic.

I would say going on those two pics, especially the first, you have a healthy gourami full of roe. Don't ask me how to get them to drop their eggs as I haven't been able to get my platinum to drop hers yet and she definately has a bulge.

If she is acting healthy I'd say its roe.

A clearer pic might help. lol.

Still I'd go about feeding peas and fasting them as it doesn't hurt them and should be done about once a week anyway. Try and notice if she is pooing and what colour to post with another pic. good luck in getting a good clear pic, I know it can be very difficult.

Oh, if you want to compare it to my platinum, heres a pic

Hope this helps, cheers, Xanthia

My gourami done this also and a few days later its scales starting pineconing and I put it down. I have never had a fish come through with drospy and it is a terrible way for a fish to die. I'm not saying that your fish has drospy either, I am just saying that mine looked liked yours, and mine winded up with drospy. So if I were you I would watch it closley.

Well, I am working on a new pic. My gouramie does look like your platinum. So far it has been almost a week, and there has been no other changes in her that I have noticed. She (I think it is a she) :/ eats like a cow, and swims around fine. The purple-ish color seems to have faded, and I fed her peas after fasting her. She does poop and from what I can see it is a dark brownish red color  lol :D Anyway, thanks for the pic Xanthia. I am trying to chase her around the tank and get a clearer shot!

Sounds just like my platinum, and she's been like it since I brought her 3 weeks ago. She gets fasted every week, and I feed her a pea several times a week. I know she's not constipated as she always seems to be pooing. Also she swims around the tank alot and eats very well just like yours. In fact I'd call her ravenous at meal times. SO for these reasons I'd say your dwarf is healthy and full of roe just like mine is.
Now, how do we get her to drop the eggs! I've been told that they are better than bettas (excuse the pun) at dropping them. She doesn't seem worse for wear though.
hmmm....

Don't mean to contradict, but I would be sure thats a male dwarf - females tend to be silvery coloured pretty much all over - much paler than males. I've a male and female, and the male looks like yours (orangey/red and blue), female silvery pale, completely different colour.
