sounds like standard white spot to me, just ask your lfs and they will give you something straight away. It is very common, and fish are most suseptable when strssed. Try to get treatment ASAP.

Hi bex1 :)

Before you treat your fish for anything, please be sure of your diagnosis. If it is ich (white spot) the fish will look like they have been sprinkled with salt. That is, there will be little tiny individual spots on them. It it's a bacterial problem (finrot, etc.) they might still have white on them, but it will not look the same. It might be more localized or the spots might be larger.

Since some of your fish are flicking, I would suggest you do a big water change before you do anything else. If your water has high nitrites, this could be the cause of that and also of bacterial infections. It's best to rule that possibility out before you treat for ich.

hi thanks for advice so far.
the fish have small little white spots on their fins, so as you said i think its white spot.
How do i treat it? will it harm my froggies and other fish??
thanks x x

Hi bex1 :)

Corys don't get ich, but the treatment doesn't do them any good. I'm not sure if the little frogs can get ich either, but they do not do very well when tanks are medicated. I suggest that you immediately set up a quarantine tank for them before you treat the tank, and keep them there until all the medication is removed from the water.

hi, ok.
did you mean quarrantine the frogs or the corys?
i dont have a quarrantine tank!! what should i do? are there any natural ways to cure it, that wont harm any of the fish??
thanks again, x x

The frog has to be removed from the tank as whitespot med is no good for them, plus corys can be funny with whitespot med too, as inchworm said cory are not prone to whitespot more bacterial problems.
Turn temp up and increase aeration, if you have to keep the corys in the tank, check instructions that you can use it full strength with certain fish.

hi thanks.
are there any natural ways to treat the white spot as i cant remove the frogs yet and would prefer to try natural methods first any ideas that would be ok with the species i have in the tank (see sig)

Salt and high temp ,but you can't use that with the loaches and corys, corys can only tolerate small amount, you will have to sort something out, as whitespot can soon kill a fish.

im going to ring my local fish shop tommorow to see what meds they have, but really would like to do it more naturally!
how high should the temp be and how much and what type of salt.
thanks again

Temp 30, no salt have loaches, scaless fish it will burn them.
Get a tank for the frog.

Deciding not to treat your tank may risk your animals. As much as you would like to avoid this, a hospital/quarantine is 'standard' equipment if you are really serious about caring for the fish. Ich can spread rapidly if not treated promptly.

You can buy an entire cheap tank setup with a box filter for under $20, much cheaper than buying all new fish. I really recommend that you 'go for it'. SH

hi ive just been to lfs and he gave me PROTOZIN to treat the ich. he said this will be ok for all the fish in there, and he's fairly sure the frogs will be ok.
Has anyone used this med before?
Does it harm frogs?
Thanks x x

hi,
if your fish to have whitespot turn the heater up to 30 degrees , the whitespot cannot live in that condition.
i would also recommend that you get some whitespot treatment.
if the treatment is harmful to frogs it should tell you on the package or bottle
i hope ure fish get better!!! keep us informed
