Ok guys..... Its been a hard week for angelus (the marble guy in my avatar). Spawning didnt go so well. I conditiond him well for almost 3 weeks before I attempted to mate my brother/sister pair. 3 days after removing the female there were no babies. so i removed Angelus from the breeding tank. i noticed a day or so before i removed him he was laying on the bottom of the tank (on his side) but i'd gently tap the tank and hes arise. so i wasent worried. I figured nearly 4 days with the lights on was getting to him. So i removed him and put him in the hospital tank(i'm treating him with aquarium salt and MELAFIX) and he would just lay there. gave him a good meal and went to bed. woke up today and hes still laying there lifeless...he dosent respond to the males in the tank nextdoor. he lays there very still and only arises for a breath of air..then he just drifts right back to the bottom. I did put the females tank right next to him today (to see his sister) and he rose to attention..then kinda lost interrest and fell back to the bottom. SOOOO.... Is he just tired??????? I really want this guy to make it. he only has 2 tears in his HM tail... and no open body wounds... should i try bettamax instead? or just keep doing what i'm doing?

Thanks for all responses in advance!!!

James

ok here are some pics. hes in a 1 gallon hospital tank. i filled in only about half full. I added a silk plant also. hes laying on the silk plant so the trip from bottom to top isent as harsh.

I would get going on a bacerial med.
Is he bloated.
Disn't see the pics.
Not good when they rest on plants usually means there dying.

Meds will only make the problem worse. It doesn't sound like he is sick, but a good 90 percent of the bettas at my LFS lie on the bottom of the containers motionless until you tap their cups. They just do that, because theres nothing else to do in what amounts to be one sip of water. Wouldnt you lie there bored out of your mind?

Wilder are you sure about jumping on bacterial meds. I can't see anything wrong and bettas tend to often lie on their sides...

I REALLY NEED SUGGESTIONS ON MEDS! I changed out the water when i learned that the melafix is an irritant! so would bettamax be better? I can get preety much any meds! i'll drive for as long as i have to and spend as much as i need to! i really want to save this little guy!

Thanks!!!

James

its just this is outta his character. normally he loves to flare at his sister (and other boys)...he loves to play around his tank.... now he would be laying on the bopttom if it wasent for the silk plant,.....

no hes not bloated. but i did notice the bubbles were coming outta his gills. could there be somthing wrong with his labrinth?

Resting on the bottom alot can be a sign of illness, usually when they lay on plants as well.
Does the fish look unwell as you can usually tell.

Go to the betta section and ask about the bubbles don't know.
Do the gills look ok, not red and inflamed, or pale with excess mucas on them.

hes looks very unwell..almost dead. hes not reacting to anything... only a strong tap on the tank...

To be honest he sounds bad and the med could finish him off.
It up to you if you add a bacterial med, if you do don't forget to increase aeration in the tank.
Good luck.

To be honest he dosn't sound like he going to make it.
If his breathing is shallow the meds won't help him.

his breathing is not shallow...i dont think he has a diseases...he just seems very tired/weak

WHich is my point. No use in rushing in on a med treatment because that will only decrease the gills ability to absorb oxygen, and stress him out which could make it worse.

thanks for everything though! i'll update you on how hes doing.

Hows he doing.
