hi again.. :D .it now apapears as if her gravid spot has split making it look like 2 jet black dots...is this normal, she is tending to be the 1st to the top 4 food, swimming away from other fish but she isnt making any space 4 her self shes quite eager to swim around and around...thye only thing i have noticed is she likes the heater at the mo and spends a good 10 mins quite happy beside it...
i will keep looking but knowing my luck she will have them in the ngt and i wont see em.. :/

If you don't want to rick the breeder thing, you can try and put her in a seperate tank. (breeding tank) That way, she can have her fry, without having to worry about the other eating them. Yes, she may still eat her own, but it's less likely, and better off then have her give birth to fry, and be eaten.

Just a suggestion.

hi its tricky as i dont want to stress her out and i feel that this will she loves it in the tank and i dont want her to be stressed, dont seem far... have turned the tank light off as she seems bigger each time i look lol gonna trick her into thinking its ngt time he he... hope this works

OK...understandable...

How about moving the OTHER fish, and not touching her...

I'm trying to think "out of the box" it might be stupid, but hey, maybe it'll work..

GOOD LUCK...Give us updates!!!

arr!! i did it i did it!!! i put her in the birthing tank thinking that she was about ready to pop...she had been finding her little quite spot so i thought she was reasy...turned the lights off from t time yesterday and she was ready...but i get up this morn and no babies, have left he light off so i dont stress her no more but hopefully soon she will have the babies

If she's in a seperate tank, add lots of plants, especially floating ones. The fry can hide in there, and then better their chances of survival. In fact, any kind of ornaments, rocks, wood, decorations..anything they can hide in is great. How many gallons is your breeding tank? You may be able to take mom out and raise the fry in there for a while. That'd be much better for them then being raised in a net, and it wouldn't be as risky as putting them in the main tank. If you want to know more about fry tanks, there is a pinned topic in the Livebearer forum. Good luck! :)

Congrats..lol...Hope all goes OK..

I'm having the same issue. I have a pregnant Platy, but dont know how long before she will pop. I dont want to put her in my breeding tank to early, because its kinda small, so for now she's in the main tank.

I dont know how long to wait, I mean yes, she's big, and her gravid spot is quite noticable, but like I said, I dont want to put her in too early..

Hope all goes OK
