ok so i'm moving my fish around (once again) and have discovered my little princess (beautiful white/turquoise male plakat) has dropsy and red sores on his body this has been so sudden i swear it could have been overnight as he was fine yesterday and this morning i found him snoozing on a plant leaf that he loves. His tank is due to become a sorority and after id netted him out and plopped my two girls in i noticed his body was slightly swollen and had red patches :( i've immidiately dosed with aquarium salt in his 0.75 gal critter keeper this is all i have to keep him in at the moment as my other spare tanks are in storage after i had the big betta move around  i love this little man to death as he's the only other fish to have lived in old radish's (my first ever betta and tropical fish) tank i've grown him since he was nothing but a tiny 0.5 cm fry and i'll be devastated if i lose him :-( usually i'm very prepared for these situations but he looks so bad laying on his side at the bottom of the critter keeper i'm afraid that he wont pull through. i plan to keep dosing with aquarium salt and to give him x2 water changes a day keeping the water level low so that he can reach the top without too much effort i'm going to put him on a good high protein diet too to help his immune system, after my suspitions of Valentines finrot this just isnt good news  anyone got any suggestions? any help is appreciated.

That's terrible Forest. I really hope he pulls through

NO...dont use aquarium salts. go and buy some EPSOM salt. it is a different compound (magnesium sulfate) and will help draw fluid OUT of his tissues. you can find epsom salts at any store that sells over-the-counter medicines and it is REALLY cheap!
dose the tank at 1 tablespoon/ 5 gal or give him baths up to 2X a day in a "hopsital cup/jar/container" at 1 tablespoon/gal for up to 30 mins. do not use aquarium salt!(all salts are NOT created equal).
dont feed him for a few days. keep his water very clean. you could TRY a good broad-spectrum antibiotic if you can get some, but if its true dropsy likely nothing will help. just keep him comfortable.
could you put up a picture? does he have pineconing scales?
best of luck. keep us posted.
cheers

poor fella... unfortunatly, every case of dropsy i've ever heard about, turned out to be fatal.... :< i do hope he does okay, though, and keep an eye on your girls if you put them in his old tank..

Thanks for all the support guys, he's looking alot perkier today and is even taking short swims around the critter keeper he doesnt look so red anymore but it appears that he's lost some scales? and his bloating is no where near as bad as it was but is still presant. I have hope for my little man yet :D Got paid yesterday so tomorow i'll pick up some epsom salts as suggested, i know the epsom salt method but sadly i dont have any as of yet otherwise i would have been straight on with it. His pine coning also appears to be going down considerably. ATM i am doing 100% water changes everyday replacing the aquarium salt every time i do and adding a pippete of stress coat.

I have hope that he'll make it :)

Any thoughts on the scale loss? i assume they mayhave just pineconed too far and come off but if anyone knows anything for sure that would be a great help :)

glad to hear that he's doing better! crossing my crossables for the little fella!

Again he's showing improvement today he still mostly hangs out at the bottom of the tank but he is alot perkier and will come up for food, i have moved valentine into his section of the divided 12gall as it appears that his fins were just torn as i've seen no further deterioration of his tail fin, he is currently buisying himself by flaring at Djin through the divider haha

Looks like my goldfish has this now :(

I have no spare tank, only a large goldfish bowl. I'm going to try what was suggested before about bathing him in EPSOM salts.

Can anybody helo me with a schedule PELASE? as in length of time being bathed, how often?

Thanks,
Simo

i do 10 minuits every other day and princess is no longer swollen at all he's just having problems swimming but his red sores are also clearing up :good:

Thats great to hear!

I'll do the same, hopefully he will pull through
