Please Answer A Question About Ammonia!

it dosent need to be an exact art you can aproximate it if you go over it will take a little longer to cycle your tank, but you will also have a larger bacteria colony. its all down to time, once you`ve worked out your initial dose of amonia, (say 5ml) when you see the amonia drop down to about 1 or 2 ppm add another 4 ml of amonia when that drops down to 1 ppm. But as i said its all down to time, when your having to dose the tank every day, then your tank is ready for fish...

i saw that too ian ;)

hes right though.. its a waiting game.. and a little too much dont matter ;)

i always found that odd though when i did it ian.. if you topped it up every time it went down to 1ppm, then how would you ever know if it would go down to 0 within 12 hours.. which is the aim

when the nitrites were cycling better, i just started checking it every 12 hours, wherever the ammonia had got to. then adding accordingly...

Squid

i ment whilst also keeping an eye on the nitrites, povided these are falling equaly as fast then the tank is ok, but the bacteria that breakes down nitrites grow alot slower than the ones that break down amonia so you will see amonia spike and fall much quicker than than the nitrites
