How come my platys won't get pregnant??? I have two adult females and one adult male. Neither of the females have a gravid spot and I've had them for 3 weeks!

What are you're water parameters? And the tank size, and what else is the tank with them?

It may be that they are breeding, but the fry are being eaten, or that you're water parameters aren't in top condition to promote breeding, or possibly that other tank mates are stressing the females out and they are reabsorbing the fry. Or that their died lacks enough protein. The male may also be sterile and unable to produce sperm to fertilize the females.

There are a number of possibilities that can affect fish fertility

A nice selection of possibles there KrytaK but the male being sterile or the fry not being noticed are about all that would be an issue in the real world. If the water supports the adults in good health, it is fine for fry. If the adults are healthy it comes down to being as simple either not noticing newborn fry or a sterile male. Chances of 2 sterile females are very low although 1 sterile and the other dropping fry is quite possible. There is no evidence that fry are ever re-absorbed, although the statement is quite common on the internet.
