We have a tank with about 12 platy's. The females are obviously pregnant and we have had a couple of fry survive so far (this is just letting them be!). One of the females have spent the last few hours hiding inbetween the plants and I figured she is probably going to give birth. Just a couple of questions for the experts:

do platy's give birth at night? or any time?
how do you know the female is ready to give birth?

thanks! :D

Platies can give birth anytime they want. Usually it's at night.

The mother will usually hide in the plants, or near the heater, and start getting moody. Chasing fish away, and such. Sometimes, if you look at her head-on, she will have a squarish look to the belly. :)
