Platys Eyes

hi i have got a platy fry about a month and a half old, are there eyes supposed to still be fully black at this stage??

Most Platy fry are not born with fully black eyes. I believe that there are some strains of Platy with fully black eyes and I suspect that this is what you have.

[Edit]After a quick search online for a picture of black-eyed Platies (I can't seem to find any), I thought that i should ask if you are certain that they are Platies? Mollies commonly have black eyes...

no i did not witness the birth i was just cleaning my tank out one day and there she was hiding underneath my log, i put her in my breeding net until she was bigger. i have one molly a male marble.

Definitely not a Molly then. lol When I originally posted, I was certain that I had seen black-eyed Platies before. But after doing an online image search, there were none to be found. I would suspect that if his/her eyes are black that they will stay black. Would be interesting to see pics....

will get some pics may be hard but ill try, and i will post them tomorrow. i know its weird all my other platies have normal eyes.

heres my little beauty not a very good picture buts shes a bugga to get a pic of. as you can see her eyes are fully black,jet black. she also looks like she is frowning on this pic but its just reflection.

Has there ever been a female Molly in there? I hate to keep harping on the Molly vs. Platy thing, but he/she looks so much like my little Molly fry. Either way, it is a very nice looking fish...good job. Here's a pic of one of mine. I know what you mean about photographing fry...lol

wow it does look like mine. no i have only ever had one other male molly besides the one i have still got, and the black like patching on the end of your fry looks like mine too but you cant see that on my pic. whats happened with my fry??

oh oh i lie i did have a female molly a orange marble, i had got it into my head i had two male i have a male and had a female, just that one day i woke up and she wasnt in my tank and never found her body, cant believe i have forgot about her feel horrible.

she never looked pregnant though and the male molly never showed any interest in her.
