Platy's - Bullying Advice Given

I have a 20l with nothing to put in it!

I bet it's too small for a Platy though, even one.

justjon, is there any way of you maybe buying a cheap second tank? does ebay cover jersey? or maybe someone has one locally? and you could put some different fish in there with him

I have a small black second tank 20l but it's not very appealing to the eye... I may have to think about it... It's also my hospital tank you see

I got mine on Ebay for £38.00.

Tho I really think 20l is too small for a Platy thiking about it

Platys get alot bigger than most people think. They get to 4" which is to big for a 20L imo. i would try adding a few more males first to see if it spreads out the aggression a little.

I'm glad you said that Kinzo coz I always read that the absolute max size is 2.5 inches but one of mine is easily 3 inches!

really?! i guess my single black tailed one is getting on a bit then, shes about 3". i thought she was just a monster lol

I think the males tend to max out about 3" but ive seen females easily 4"

Decided I have to move him to my hospital tank, even after moving to sand he's really going for the little one now.. it's not fair. So he can live in the small tank for a while till I find something to do with him.

Prob the best idea. If it's the same as mine give it a couple of weeks and you won't believe the difference in your bullied fish.

Yeah exactly, well... I havent moved him yet, because I did a test o nthe small tank water and ammonia was 0.25 oO

Well, I moved him back.. on his own, poor little black one was hiding all evening, I did a 50% water change before doing so, if he dies.. (hope not) then it's his own fault in any event for being such a bully.

Well - I've just had a call regarding someone picking him up from me, though I don't like to just let him go (especially to a place unknown to me) there's nothing I can do, and it's not fair on him to let him live alone in a small 20L...

The guy will be coming to pick him up tomorrow... he said he had a 100L with guppies/platys in, but seemed a little bit "clueless" when i mentioned ammonia levels in the tank it's in etc are all fine.

Nether the less, fingers crossed it's an ok home

Has he had the tank a while? If so I wouldn't worry, it'll be cycled even if he doesn't know what it is. My friend has had the same fish in a biorb for years, they've even moved house twice in it but they're still alive and look healthy to me but when I mention anything about cycling to her she looks at me blankly and thinks I'm a geek!

He'll be really happy in a 100L with other Platys. Just think what fun he'll have now.
