I am trying to find out whether my fish will like the current which my spray bar (which runs the lungth of the tank) an inch or so under the water but pointing towards the surface makes.

I only ask as I have also tried the system without the 'bung' in place at the end of the spray bar which creates less current around the tank (as the water flows out at far less pressure) and now I don't know which to do.

My gut feeling is that the fish appear happier withou the water whizzing around, but I like the thought of disturbing the surface of the water to aid oxygen transfer+ it looks pretty good!

Any thoughts?

I'd be careful about removing the bung from the end if you have smaller fish, some, like kuhli loaches will be detrmined to get inside your filter...

Hi There

I have platys and harlequins, and filters both ends, ones a spray bar thats above the water, which is adjustable, but they don't seem bothered by them at all, whether this is right or wrong i don't know, but the fish seem content :)
I'm sure they do play with the flow has the platys like going up to the filter without the flow bar which runs out just above the water line, they get in front of it which pushes them through the water, only for them to do it over again, very amusing to watch

Thanks

Both Platys and harlequins appear more active when there is a greater flow, and I have observed them both messing about in the current.

So I guess I hope they are happy as opposed to agitated (but too stupid to stay away!)

My harlequins love the flow out of the filter - they shoal up and swim together against the flow - when they get past it they all dash back down the tank with the flow.
