Just as a general enquiry, I have a platy with dropsy.

I first noticed him looking sorry for himself on Thursday evening, then on Friday evening, he had the classic symptoms (erect scales, protruding eyes, engorged abdomen), so I immediately dosed with Interpet No.9 internal bacteria (always keep a bottle in stock, just in case).

He seems a touch better over the weekend, in terms of activity and eyes protruding a little less, but still engorged and with erect scales.

Having read in numerous places about dropsy usually being fatal, I wondered how long he'd be likely to have?

I think I read up to 2 weeks.

I lost a female betta to dropsy a while ago; she lasted 6 days from me first noticing she wasn't well (she looked perfecly fine the day before). She perked up mid way through so I was hopefull; then a few days later she was pineconed everywhere and I knew she wouldn't make it through the night.

I was recommended salt baths; will help get the swelling down.

All you can do is isolate the fish and use some epson salts to help draw the fluids out.
Try a bacterial med.

Once scales stick out fish rarely make it due to it being the last stage of dropsy, organ failure.

Poor thing.
R.I.P.
