Platy Still Pregnant!

I have several platies in my tank, and naturally I keep getting cute little fry. But one of my platies looks pregnant, in fact looks about ready to burst she's so big, and has done for weeks. A few new fry appeared in the tank, whether they're hers or one of the other females I don't know, but she doesn't look any slimmer. How long are they pregnant for? And can they drop one baby at a time, because these babies seem to be appearing very slowly compared to previously.

Usually Platies are pregnant for around 4 weeks, however they can take slightly longer if they are having a big batch, or they can hold on to the fry if they don't find the conditions suitable. I'm going to say it sounds like your's is just having a lot of babies. Unless she has a disease?

But anyway, to answer your question, yes, they can have only one at a time. A couple Platies I have had always gave birth over the period of about a week. Just a few fry a day.
