Do different breeds of platies get along? I wanted 1 red wagtal, and one coral anyone (both female)

anyone know?

Platies will get along fine, there is no real difference in breed, just colouration and pigmentations. The only issue is Male/Female ratio, and intermale agression may become an issue. Keep the ratio 1:(2-3) and youll be fine(Males:Females).

How about just females?

Spot on. You shouldn't have any troubles and hopefully no fry! Though you might find you get a couple of batches if they are already pregnant when you get them [often happens]. A single mating can result in multiple batches of fry so just keep an eye.

Ok thanks!!! The females are pretty much the same as the males in the visual sense, theyre just as pretty.

Yeh. The only real difference visually between male and female platys is the gonopodium in males [their reproductive organ]. Females have a triangular anal fin, males a sword shaped gonopodium. Males also are slightly smaller than females when both are fully grown [still dosn't stop my male from bossing around my females though! ]. They're not like guppys where only the males show the beautiful colouration.

Platys are great little fish, quite intelligent and social. My only real complaint is their proflic breeding and the fact they literally eat everything in sight [apart from plants] including the panda corys pellets. Keeping all females if definately the way to go.

Thanks for the insight penguin. I love platies too! theyre great!

No probs.

I'm a huge panda cory fan too. Just got 6 of them at the weekend and the young platy that is in the tank with them [not disimiliar colour] keeps trying to shoal with them, so funny to watch. :D
