Today we has brought 3 Sunset Platies, 1 male and 2 females. One of the females is pregnant and quite big. They all look clean and healthy but the pregnant one flicks herself occasionly on the bogwood. Is this OK or the first signs of a problem? :dunno:

How long has the tank been set up, and what are your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, can be caused flicking through bad water quality wan't to rule this out first.

Not long, but it has had a fishless cycle.

ammonia 0
nitrite 0
pH 8
nitrate 3-4

It was only a few times in the first hour of getting her home, and haven't seen her do it for a few hours now. I'm propably over reacting! :S

Probably just getting used to her new surroundings, keep an eye out for whitespot common sometimes when you have added new fish, good luck.

It's White Shot! I was feeding them this morning and noticed that she had a white dot on her tail, then noticed a white spot on one of my Harlequins. I recognise it from when I had a tank some years ago. I have treated the water and turned up the heater a little. I hope OK as I caught it straight away. :-( :(

She feeding OK and looks happy enough. The treat says to repeat dose on the 4th day. After that should it be OK if no signs of it. I don't not the cycle of white shot?

Every thing is peaceful in the tank, apart from the male Platy chasing the other female. :*)

It has not got any worse, every one is happy and feeding. The 1 white spot dot on her tail is still there but she OK.

I was just reading that at 25°c the life cycle is only a week, so, if I treat the tank again on the fouth day is should kill it off? The treatment says to treat at the first signs then again on the fourth but that's it. Should I do a water change on the fourth day or leave until seven day after the final treatment when you can replace the carbon filter etc. :dunno:

Any help would be gratefully recieved.
