SO!
I'm pretty sure my platy is going to drop soon. She's fairly squared, antisocial, and I can see the baby's eyes.
She chases away anyone who gets near her.
I'll post pictures soon enough, and anyone else can post pictures of their pregnant fish or fry here too.

The fish I think is very pregnant:

How long does she have left?

My two bottom feeders. Could someone tell me what species they are?

Bad pic of my dwarf gourami:

2 more of my platys:

the pic is too small for the pregnant platy i can't see anything, but the bottom feeders are bronze cories

You can click the image to make it larger. :)
Or did you mean she isn't pregnant? I think she is, because I can see the babies eyes.... :)

Soo, if she is pregnant, I have 2 options for when she has her babies:
1. Leave her in the main tank

2. Get a breeding box/net and put her in there.

I really like her, so which option would stress her out the least? I don't want her to die of stress!

Depends if u wanna keep as many as you can....If so, I would put her in a breeder trap as soon as you can, but like I say that is if this were ME, I got lots of Platies and Livebearers and find as soon as they are 'squraed off' it don't take long for them to give birth, maybe a few hours or a couple of days.

If you wanna go the 'natural' way lol, then leave her be and let her have them in the tank itself, if you got lots of plants and hidey holes they should find them and shelter away from any other fish that could eat them. Also be careful of them getting sucked into the filter, if you got a sponge one, you should be fine or one that's quite gentle.

I've heard that a stocking can be used to cover the filter, not done it my self yet as my filters for my fry tanks are gentle ones that don't suck up fry, but I could be wrong with the stocking thing....just make sure it's a) A brand new one LOL b) Rinsed in boiling water and tap safe before adding to tank...

Its difficult to say when she is due from that piccie, any chance of a larger picture or a more close up view?

I really dont like using a breeding trap for anything larger than a guppy, there just isnt enough room for them & they do get very stressed in there.

With my Mollies, I tend to watch them closely when I think they are due, when the fry are born, I catch as many as I can using a large turkey baster & pop them in the breeding trap, if you have lots of plants & hidey holes a fair few should survive.

The quick answer I guess is that leaving her in the main tank will stress her less.

Good luck with her, she is lovely.

karigupi is right, the breeding traps are quite small, but I often use the double ones and take the divide out at the top so more space up top to match down below - for the fry when they drop thru the grid.

The less stressful way is just to let her have them in the tank, but keeping an eye on her for catching the fry may be difficult as more often than not my platies tend to have their babies early hours of the morning after I have gone to bed (After midnight usually - (###### u tropical fish forums), and when I get up next day they usually there in bottom of breeding trap!

But it's entirely YOUR choice, everyone is different! :hyper:

Sure, I can take some more:
This is my entire tank. Is it planted enough?

She is in the center, my gourami is on the side.

She is center, with my male at the side.

She and my gourami again.

Eventually, I plan to use this as a tank for them to give birth in, which is the least stressful, correct?
My community will be moving to this 38 gal:

And I'll get some more platys once it's set up.
:)

I've been noticing that the male is a lot more active. Not specifically wanting to breed with her , but chasing any female within sight. He usually barely wants to breed at all.

So, any new opinions on her? Anyone?

How long do people think she has?

EDIT-
The 38 gal is set up, but I need to get decorations.
Here it is-

Empty...

And here is a pic of my gourami.( Are they supposedly agresive? Because he is probably the least aggresive fish I own.)

It's just me posting.
UPDATE!

When I got up, my platy was hiding behind the plants and castle. Now she is darting around at the top of the aquarium. Does this mean she is close to giving birth? And do all fish have a white birthing tube?

Update:
BABY FISH! YAY!
My first fry. Will try to get pics, going to get them a breeder.
