I was always told that they need harder water? @Byron can you please clarify?

Wouldn't recommend housing platy/swordtails with neon tetras. Livebearers are a hard water fish while tetras are a soft water fish.

Plates are typically not very aggressive with other species (that is, unless it's something small enough for them to eat). They are usually mildly aggressive with each other due to gender politics etc.

I personally have kept platies with both species without incident, but I can not guarantee that others have had the same experience. That being said, those species have different water requirements which is something to take into consideration.

I would not. They have totally different water requirements
