Does anybody know about platies breeding habits? I have five platies in my tank and the one keeps turning on her side whilst shaking whenever the male goes near her, he chases her, she shakes her touche at him and so on. Also, the male is getting a bit pushy with the other males, bulliying and stuff while my Hi Fin platy keeps raising his fins at him and a chase ensues. I was under the impression that Plateis were very friendly? Also, i am feeding them twice a day, a little in the morning and a little at night. This doesnt seem to be satisfying them as the rest of the time they are scavanging the gravel for bits of food. Whenever i walk near the tank they think its feeding time. Very cute, but should i be giving them a nibble in the day aswell as morning and night. Thanks GRJ. :good:

I think there are two females and 3 males. Its a 108ltr ank, i havent finished stocking it yet. Its going through its cycle at the minute too as i didnt know about fishless cycling untill it was too late. You know what the LFS are like for misinformation!!! I am doing daily water changes to soften the blow for them. :good: GRJ

Platty eat, s***e and **** A LOT  None of the 3 are EVER satisfied.
Certainly sounds like 'courting' actvities. The male/female ratios are a bit cocked (no pun intended :shifty:)
If you want fry (inevidable) then a couple more female and 1 less male would be best but be prepared for the splash of many, many little fins

LFS do not really want you to know about fishless cycle, I mean a couple of quids worth of ammonia (which they don't sell), test kit and a bottle of dechloniator......where's the profit in that? Much better for them to sell you a test kit and dechlorinator and a large bottle of Cycle and a few fish to kill and replace, then all the medications to combat what could have been avoided.

Lucky you though, you found your way here to this forum :good:
