Hi everyone I know there are already topics on pregnant platies but I am really inexperienced in keeping tropical fish and looking for the signs etc, so basically can anyone tell if this platy is pregnant I think she is but am unsure

From her size I would say yes, but it would be useful for a picture of you platy from side on so a gravid spot could be seen.

thanks for your help I appreciate it here is the side view hope it helps, I have only had my tropical tank for 8 weeks so this is all new to me

Wow. she is very close, she could have fry, from right now to 5 days, this is a guess though, I do not know when she last gave birth. My platy gave birth 2 days ago and her gravid spot was smaller and she wasn't quite as big or as square.
She's quite big so this might not be her first batch. you could have anywhere from 3-100 babies. From her size, if she gave birth today you'd probably have 40-60 (this is just because my platy had 20 and yours looks quite a bit bigger)
Good luck :)

she had her fry I can see the difference now she is very skinny now and all that dark area is very tiny now not sure how many she had I think they are all hiding I have found some small fry in the plants as I have week old guppy fry in a net breeder to keep them same thanks for all you help I have learnt how to tell the difference now so this is going to help me in the future

:) the first batch is exiting right? Good luck with the fry, there probably all hiding.
it is really helpful to see the difference, my platy doesn't get very big yet but it's only her second batch
