Hello.

About a month ago and then again a week later i woke up to find a load of Platy fry in my tank (i didn't know anyone was preggers, so a bit of a surprise!). Anyway, i managed to rescue 13 of them. My question is, how big do they have to be to release them into the community tank? I only have a 30 litre tank so I'm only keeping them until they are big enough to give away, and I'm guessing they'll grow a bit quicker with more room? I have 3 platy, a danio, minnows, 2 shrimp and an african dwarf frog in my tank. I know that if they're small enough to be eaten, they will be, but how big is big enough? They can eat bloodworms without them being chopped up, so they're not really tiny anymore.

I've only had my a tank a few months and am still an amateur, so any advice is welcome.

i have left all my platy fry in my community tank. i had 13 and currently have 3 left. which are far to big to fit in any of my other fishes mouths.

rule of thumb is. if any fish can fit any other in its mouth. it will eat it eventually

We are almost all amateurs here, but some of us do have some experience. If your "minnows" are white cloud mountain minnows, the fry will only need to be about 2 cm long to survive in the main tank. If they are something else, I have no idea.
