Hi there everyone,
This is my first fish forum, I've only been fish keeping for a few months or so.
I bought platys as my first tropicals and 3 days later we had some fry!
we only found 3 tho :( but theyre 2 weeks old now and seem to to be doin really well, we're keeping them in a breeding net
ive been feeding them liquid fry and a lil mix of flakes, daphnia and very very small brine shrimp recently,
im not sure what the best thing to do for them is food wise so any advice would be welcome!
ive even been thinking about starting a microworm culture, whats everyones opinion on that?

I think my platy is still pregnant tho, she is huge! and seems to have a gravid spot too,
how long should I be waiting if she has only given birth 2 weeks ago?
I don't wanna stress her out by putting her the floating breeder tank
Ill take some more recent pics of her and post them tonight

Thanks :D

heres another for ya, these were only a few days when I took these
I'll get more pics tonight cos they look quite different now,
ive got 2 white ones with black fins and an orange one :)

Orange ones are what I'm trying to get hold of. Ideally I want the red wag ones (orange with black edges on their fins) :)

Ah thats what my pregnant platy is, a red wag tail, I'm uploading pics of her on another post, shes realllllly big now
I got her from pets at home in orpington

Use crushed flake, crushed pellets, crushed protien foods, a mircoworm culture is a good idea and the fry will love them :good: also baby brine shrimp (you can buy eggs and hatch them urself by using..... a 2 litre bottle, aquarium salt, and a airpump (search hatching brine shrimp eggs in the search bar)...

Ive also replied to your pregnant platy thread in the livebearer section.

Welcome to the forum Krissycat.
Your fry will do fine on whatever food you give the adults as long as you crush it up to almost a powder. I do that with a pinch of food between my finger tips. Be careful not to overfeed though. What you want to do is feed them lots of times each day but only feed as much s they can eat in a minute or two. That often means no more than a single flake of fish food powdered between your finger tips.

Thanks for the advice, I've bought some starter microworm culture so just waiting for that to arrive now,
I did look into hatching brine shrimp cos all my fish absolutely love them, im sure they'd love the babies too
I feed em about 4 times a day a couple of drops of liquid fry, only occasionally flakes,
they too love the baby brine shrimp tho and go crazy when I put it in there which is good cos it gets em moving too!

I'm afraid that you are not very local to me KrissyKat.
A few thousand miles may seem local to some people, the world is shrinking every day, but it does not seem so to me. I find that a 7 hour airplane trip is not very local. I wish I were in a position to trade stock with you. I find microworms are too small for most livebearers, even fry. I do maintain some microworm and Walter worm cultures, but they are really for my Heterandria formosa and as a starter food for my egg layers. I admit it, I also breed egg layers. I am presently trying to source some nice wild type bettas who are mouth brooders. They are not the type that most betta people here on TFF consider raising, because they are focusing on the bettas available at their LFS. The fish that I want are seldom available locally and cost way too much on line. That is why I am still trying to source them instead of actively breeding them. At heart, I am a cheapskate.

Lol booo. Don't worry, I'll find some. I think my tank is gonna be cycling for the next 5 years so I have time :)
