I have found platy fry in my tank about 2 weeks ago and only 1 survived. I put it in a 2.5 gallon tank with one plant and two caves and some gravel. I also put in a filter but no heater. The temperature here is 39 degrees farenheit and i need an efficient way to keep the tank warm, i might get a breeding trap, but that will be in like one week, so i need to keep my fry alive and i have added warm water 3 times today, but i don't want to keep adding warm water everytime since it can be bad for the fry. Any ideas? PLEASE HELP ME I AM VERY DESPERATE AND SCARED OF WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY FRY!

How is it even getting that cold??!!??? It's like it's outside? And I'd suggest a heater. How has it not died in that cold of water?

Well, the tempereature in the water is 73 since i have it near my heaters.

and then

Ii need an efficient way to keep the tank warm,

Isn't the answer fairly obvious?
yeah i know the "obvious" answer: a heater, but didn't you read other parts? i can't get to a pet shop right now i have to wait about a week to either buy a breeding trap to put it in or buy a heater for it.

Then the only other option is to take a chance and put back in main tank which im guessing has a heater? If it's nicely planted and plenty of hiding spots... it might stand a chance.

Yes, I read the other parts.

i might get a breeding trap, but that will be in like one week,

is what you wrote, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you

can't get to a pet shop right now

It might mean, for instance, that the shop is out of stock of breeding traps until a week's time, or that the shop doesn't stock them, and you have to buy online. Please remember that what seems obvious to you isn't necessarily obvious to another person - only you know what you are trying to say. I am truly sorry that I misunderstood your post.

Thanks for the help guys, i was able to get a breeding trap from my friend and i have placed it in the big tank where it is heated.

Glad you got it sorted out!

Last time I needed a breeding trap I build my own. I cut the top and bottom out of a 2 liter pop bottle and attached a washcloth to the bottom with a rubber band. I just submerged it in the tank and attached it to the side with a paper clip bent into the shape of a hook.

If your home is holding the tank temperature at 73F, there is no need to add any heat for your fry.
