i have three male and one female platies. yes i am going to get them more females, but have to wait a few days. all the fish seem to be in great shape and very happy, but i have one male(the smallest) that has been hanging out in the bottom back corner of the tank all day. the largest of the males was nipping at his side yesterday so maybe that has him stressed? he his in a stump decoration most of yesterday.
he has also been clamping the top and bottom fins to his body.

humm well a good hiding spot is a good idea this could be because of the higher ratio of males than to females they all want a mate and will pick on the weakest one basically so when you go to the pet store ask for a few females would be an option to relive him of his bullying.

since i have three males and one female i would need 5 more females right? i have a 30 gal tank and the only other tank mates are three glofish(zebra danios) and three golden inca snails. will that be too many fish? other than the females i have no plans to get any more fish.

also, does it matter what color they are or if they are hi-fin(i think that is what they are called) or the same as the ones i have? will the males still be interested in them as long as they are female and platies?

Platies are very indiscriminate animals when it comes to breeding. They do not much care what color or fin type the female has.
