hi
our 1st surviving mollie baby was always very small about the third the size of an adult mollie even at a year......we used to call her minimol & she was really cute sadly she got dropsy recently & died but up until then she seemed normal in every other way. we did notice that she stayed very small ( about 2&1/2 cm long ) for just under a year and then seemed to have a bit of a growth spurt until she reached her 1/3 adult mollie size)
how many fry do you have ?
i know the guy who owns our lfs told me that fry can release a hormone into the water whilst growing which causes you to get a couple of biggies while the rest seem to stay smaller something to do with the big ones wanting to stay big for the 'survival of the fittest & biggest' he advised me to do frequent as in daily or second daily v small water changes in our fry tank to dilute the effects of the hormone so the other fry can catch up. i did this with our remaining fry ( were swordies the size diff between them all was amazing!!!!) and it seemed to help but i havent done any research on this to find out how accurate it is) have any of your fry reached full adult size??? just wondering if it could have something to do with it.
apologies if this doesnt make sense & i dont really have a definite answer for you but if your keeping the fish it doesnt really matter i used to love our minimol she was really cute & always really assertive - regularly used to chase our tiger barbs 4 times her size.
