platty problem

We have a black and white platty and have noticed that its getting rather big. Please have a look at the pic and give us your opinion.

Not sure if it pregnant, overweight or what!!

I say pregnant.
It looks like a female, but I can't be totally sure, because I can't see the anal fin.

I dont know, thats hard to tell... does she have a gravid spot?

where do you find the gravid spot??

The gravid spot is by her bottom... If you look at her from behind you would see it near the back/bottom. But is she is black they are hard to see

Can't tell by that pic, the female usually has a triangle fin near the anal fin.

The gravid spot is a dark area located at the back of the pregnant fish's tummy; it is in fact the fry eyes you can see which darken as the fish's pregnancy progresses but not all fish show this depending on their coloring.
I would say she's pregnant just from the shape/size and she very lovely looking too
I would say expect some fry withing the next 2weeks, but thats just my guess.

yep she is pregnant. my platy looked she would pop right before she gave birth

the other thing i noticed is she spends a lot of time on the bottom at the back just sitting there... other fish have done this and died soon after!

I don't have much experience, but have had platy fry before and seen molly's give birth in a friends tank.

When both my platy and my friends molly were close to birthing they seemed to take a bit of cover in plants or near the heater or anywhere for a little comfort.

I hope that this is the case and not just a near-death stressed fish.
