hi last week i bought 2 platies, i lost one 3 days ago, but the other one seemed fine. i replaced the lost one and for the past 2 days both have seemed fine, but since last night both have been just staying at the top gulping. all the other fish seem fine, my nitrates are 0 havent got an amonia check but i had some ammo lock so thats in just incase, my pump is working fine and i did a 20% water change yesterday but they are no better, probably worse today. they eat fine, but then go back to the top. any ideas? really dont want to lose anyone else!!
oh and another question
i lost..literally lost :S a zebra danio like he was there one night and in the morning there was no sign he ever existed. i only have small fish in the tank would they kill him or eat him really fastif he died?

2 platies
2 danios

Sorry for your losses, R.I.P. Check the gills to see if they look pale or red and inflamed, any mucas on them, also look for signs of little white spots, as though they have been sprinkled in salt.

bit pale

Need an ammonia reading, so i would get your water tested as soon as possible, for now i would do a water change, plus look to see if they are trying to rub them selves on anything, could be a parasite.

How are the corys acting as they are usually the first to suffer with a build up of ammonia as they are bottom dwellers.

corys are fine, busy as usual. no 1 is rubbing. deffinately is just affecting the platies they are the only ones at the surface no 1 else looks ill at all.

Do you mean the ones that are at the top of the tank gasping are rubbing as well.

Sorry text landuage thought you said number one is rubbing. All i can suggest then is another water change, you did climatise them properly, and what was the ph of the store to your tank.

no one is rubbing just floating.
climatised them for about 40 minutes, my ph now is 7.4 / 5

I would suggest another 20% water change, then get back to the board to see if it has made a difference.

Sorry R.I.P. Sounds like a bad batch of platys, good luck.
I would wait a week before you add anymore fish just to make sure the others are ok.
